The countdown for the IPL 2024 auction has begun as the event takes place on Tuesday, December 19 in Dubai. 10 IPL franchises are set to bid for their favorite players during IPL 2024 auction. A total of 333 players have been shortlisted for the auction, including 214 Indian and 119 overseas players.

There are 77 available slots across 10 IPL teams, out of which, 30 are for foreign players. Every season, there are a few surprising names that fetch expensive deals in the auction. Harry Brook is the first player on this list. The England youngster became one of the biggest buys in the previous auction after Sunrisers Hyderabad grabbed him for Rs. 13.25 crore. However, post his poor batting show in his debut season IPL 2023, the franchise released him from the squad. Harry Brook hit 190 runs across 11 games at a poor average of 21.11.

He slammed a century in one game but got out cheaply in other matches. Moreover, he could not impress in ICC World Cup 2023 either, where he held an average of 28+ across 6 innings. The 24-year-old has set a base price of Rs. 2 crore for him in IPL 2024 auction. IPL franchises would be skeptical of Brook’s batting might after his poor show last season. Hence, the England player might go unsold in the IPL 2024 auction.

4. Steve Smith

Steve Smith is another player on this list. Smith is among the best batters to play for Australia. However, he is known for his expertise in longer formats. Smith was not part of IPL 2022.

The right-handed batsman played for Delhi Capitals in the 2021 season, hitting 152 runs in 7 games with a top knock of 39. Notably, just two franchises showed interest in Smith in the 2021 auction. This time too, there is a chance that the Aussie stalwart does not get much attention during the IPL 2024 auction.

3. Mustafizur Rahman

Mustafizur Rahman is among the well-knock pacers for the Bangladesh national team. He was part of Delhi Capitals in the last edition but has been released by the team. Now, the left-arm pacer has set a base price of Rs. 2 crore in IPL 2024 auction.

Last season, Rahman played just 2 games and picked 1 wicket. Due to his high economy rate of 11.28, the team dropped him from the playing 11. The 28-year-old pacer did not execute an impressive show in ICC World Cup 2023, getting 5 scalps across 8 matches at 6.06 economy. Hence, Mustafizur Rahman might go unsold in the IPL 2024 auction.

2. Harshal Patel

Harshal Patel won the orange cap in IPL 2021 for Royal Challengers Bangalore with 32 wickets. He also made his international debut after the season season. However, with his expensive spells in the shortest format, he could not cement his place in the national side.

Now, Royal Challengers Bangalore has also released him from the squad ahead of IPL 2024. Last season, the right-arm seamer held an economy of 9.66, getting 14 wickets in 13 matches. Harshal Patel has a base price of Rs. 2 crore in the IPL 2024 auction.

Umesh Yadav was part of the Indian Team that played against Australia in the ICC World Test Championship 2023 final this year. He was part of Kolkata Knight Riders in the previous IPL season but has been released by the side. The right-arm pacer witnessed a horrible show last season, picking just 1 wicket across 8 games at an economy of 9.94.

Yadav has already reached 36 years of age and has also lost his place in the national team. With more than 50 ODIs and Tests for India, Umesh Yadav is a well-known player. However, he might go unsold in the IPL 2024 auction, where he has a base price of Rs. 2 crore.
